According to figures in the Global Consumer Survey from MEF, the global community for mobile content and commerce, 82% of UK respondents access the mobile web on a daily basis.
The survey was conducted in nine countries across five continents, with a total of 8,530 respondents from both developed and developing markets.
PureNet’s chief executive, Dr Paul Gibson, said: “This global research clearly demonstrates that consumers across the world are embracing mobile as a key access point for their content and commerce needs.
“It also illustrates that mobile is an essential platform for companies wishing to drive consumer engagement and monetise their goods, services and digital products.”
In a separate study, calling, texting and emailing remain the most frequent daily activities for smartphone users, with consumers increasingly using their smartphones for more than just the basics.
35% of smartphone users check Facebook several times a day on their smartphone and 34% of people have checked a bank account balance on their smartphone. Just shy of 30% of smartphone owners have used their phone at least once to check in using location-based services like Foursquare or Facebook Places and 24% have scanned a QR code or barcode on their smartphone.
