The Client

Cargo HomeShop is a company with a long history dating back to 1876. In 1967 the company’s reputation was recognised by the granting of a warrant to supply the household of Her Majesty the Queen. Today the Cargo HomeShop brand epitomises contemporary furniture and aspirational homewares at affordable prices. With almost 45 stores and a turnover of circa £33m and 350 plus employees Cargo HomeShop is one of the UK’s leading retailers.

The Challenge

PureNet was given the challenge to design a new easy to navigate and easy to manage eCommerce solution that would give Cargo HomeShop full control over their products, categories and promotions.

Cargo commissioned PureNet to build a mobile-optimised version of their website. The m-commerce website would need to integrate into their existing content management system (CMS), without compromising the existing control over product presentation.

What We Did

The solution was built using PureNet’s best practice approach to ecommerce development allowing Cargo HomeShop to manage products, orders and promotions cross-platform.

Cargo’s enterprise ecommerce solution integrates directly into their fulfilment provider’s warehouse management system giving accurate stock figures on the site and providing a direct link from the ecommerce site to the point of pick and ship.

The site gets a significant amount of traffic and the ecommerce platform’s high-performance architecture has been designed to cope with the high volume of visitors the site attracts each day.

Cargo launched a mobile commerce website which allows shoppers to buy the same range of items directly from their mobile device. Thanks to the flexibility of the base ecommerce platform, Cargo was also able to open an integrated Facebook shop in a bid to drive merchandise sales through the platform.


The Results

  • Cargo has seen an impressive 175% uplift in revenue via mobile devices
  • Site visits to the desktop website continue to rise
  • Sales have increased 74% in value year on year
