January Online Sales hit record high

Online sales reached £4.5 billion according to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index making a record high for January.  The increase is a massive 75% up from the previous year and online sales were particularly strong in the electronics and clothing sectors.  Other growth areas were beers, wines and spirits showing a 9.8% increase and an 18% growth in spend on Health and Beauty.

Whilst online retailing is a growing sector for consumer-spend it seems to be the bigger retailers who know how to best exploit the media to sell to consumers.

“We have seen from our own clients that January was a boom month for them.  The key to their success is a reliable platform for selling, combined with good online merchandising techniques and effective online marketing campaigns.  Which is where we have helped both large and small. ”, says Dr Paul M. Gibson, Managing Director, PureNet.

These results are further evidence that all retailers should consider an online sales presence to take advantage of this rapidly growing area of consumer-spend.
