Parker Merchanting, a brand of Rexel is a leading UK distributor of construction consumables to the construction industry, with a product range covering the three key areas of Personal Protective Equipment, Roadworks and Site Supplies.

Rexel acquired Hagemeyer in 2009. Hagemeyer’s global 2007 half-year turnover was £2,245 million.  It has a number of operating companies including Newey & Eyre and Parker Merchanting with distinct brands including Newlec, Alto, Eski and Defiance. 

Challenge


The challenge for Parker Merchanting was to open up a brand new online trade channel for existing wholesalers and distributors to increase revenue. This was a key initiative defined by the board and the time to market was critical.

PureNet were given the task of delivering a B2B e-commerce platform within the space of 4 weeks that was able to sell their range of over 3,000 products to existing and new trade customers.
 

Solution


The solution was built using PureNet’s WebPOS e-commerce platform allowing Parker Merchanting to manage products and set individual prices for customer types, the products can be seen by anyone who visits the site but prices are shown once logged into the system.

The website was designed to be easy to navigate and easy to manage the complicated product categories and pricing matrix. The platform has the ability to manage the look and feel of the product pages and descriptions and includes a special offer promotions engine.

The solution took four weeks to design, build, test and deploy, within budget and certainly within the timescales.
 

Benefits


As soon as the site went live orders were being generated by customers who had not placed orders for over a year. Within the space of 4 weeks Parker Merchandising saw a return on their investment and their revenues have grown ever since.
