The PureNet Paddlers storm to the finish

On Sunday 13th the River Ouse was taken over by the presence of thirty four mythical beasts, marking the 12th annual Dragon Boat Challenge.

Thanks to the supporters of the PureNet Paddlers we have raised over £1,100 for our chosen charity, York Against Cancer, and also the York Rotary Club’s chosen charity; The Jack Raine Foundation.

The Paddlers’ lazy theme complete with floral Hawaiian shirts looked the part, though it did not reflect their race performance…winning the first and third heats and finishing a modest 2nd in the second. Unfortunately their times were not quick enough to reach knockout stages, however they could walk away with their heads held high.

The team finished 17th place out of 34 boats, some might say “the definition of average”, but considering the 2nd to last place last year, a vast improvement for the quickening Paddlers!

The chosen charity, York Against Cancer, are currently trying to raise money for a mini bus to keep transportation for their cancer patients free of charge. This great cause is what the team gave all their effort and donations for, all in all a fantastic day!
